419 kids benefit from eye screening by Wiyaala/Blissful Sight For Kids

The UNICEF ambassador for Child Marriage and Ghana’s Afro Pop star Wiyaala and the DJIMBA World Records hosted children of the Wa East capital to an eye screening exercise as part of activities marking her annual home coming festival in Fonsi.

The eye screening exercise which is in partnership with the Blissful Sight For Kids Project, led by Dr. Zakaria Al-hassan Balure attended to a total of 419 children. Prescriptions and drugs were given for free and some critical cases given referral for further treatment.

The Blissful Sight For Kids Project, is a program by Bliss Eye Care in partnership with the Ghana Education Service aimed at school children with sight defects. The project has so far distributed 257 spectacles and 1,628 treatments reached out to children with other eye conditions in northern Ghana.

Dr. Balure however used the exercise to caution people to protect their eyes at the least chance. He bemoaned the situation where people allow pride to cause harm to our eyes.

‘Some feel that once you put on maybe goggles to work especially wilders then you are not a man. But until the thing now drop in your eye then you come back when you could just prevent it’ he stated.

Wiyaala was however grateful for the collaboration as she desired to create opportunities for children to thrive for success in the future. She earlier hosted a talent show for the kids and awarded winners with some packages.

The Lioness of Africa, as part of her annual home coming activities every year, stages a concert in the Upper West region with musicians from all walks of life. The last event hosted King Ayisoba and some local acts at the Fonsi Community Center.
