Don’t sell your integrity as a Youth Parliament -Senior Mumuni Suleman cautions

The Operations and Programmes Director of the National Youth Authority, Suleman Mumuni has called on the youth of the Wa West District to develop high interest in solving societal problems and serving as advocates for development.

He added that Youth volunteerism is a way of sharpening one’s leadership and participatory qualities for the benefit of society. 

The former Upper West Regional Director of the Authority said this at the inaugural and swearing-in ceremony of the Wa West District Youth Parliament at Wechau. This parliament is said to be first of its kind in the country to be registered by the Authority.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Mr Suleman said the inception of the Upper West Youth Parliament made way for the district parliament further describing it as ‘serious business’ that needed to be handled with ‘passion and sacrifice’ to sustain. 

He congratulated the House and asked that the integrity of leadership of the house must be taken seriously as they have become role modules and must team up to effect development in the district. He encouraged them to hold stakeholders accountable for societal benefit.

The Ghana Youth Parliamentary system is recognized as the most effective way of impacting the leadership roles of the youth in the world. Other countries are showing interest in Ghana’s panache of the Youth Parliament.

The Upper West Youth Parliament was formed by the Regional Youth Council in 2010 headed by Senior Suleman at that time. The parliament has since performed to an upshot of some Municipal and Districts Youth Authorities desiring to own their parliaments across the country.

The Upper West Youth Parliament has been able to hold some duty bearers within the region and beyond accountable including; the immediate Upper West Regional Minister Alhaji Alhassan Sulemana, Then Majority Leader and now Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Nadowli-Kaleo, ASK Bagbin, CEO of the National Youth Authority, Hon. Emmanuel Asigri, and some Regional Directors and Heads of Departments.

In 2012, the Regional Youth Parliament successfully held a debate for the Wa Central Constituency parliamentary aspirants for the general elections.
