The Upper West Regional Communications Directorate of the oppositional National Democratic Congress has issued a statement, describing the Roads and Highways Minster, Kwasi Amoako Attah’s directive to the Highways Authority over road cuts along the Tumu-Navorongo highway as insensitive.
The minister had to visit the area urgently as heavy downpours washed portions of the highway around Dimajan in the Sissala East district of the Upper West Region causing vehicular traffic as the only road linking the Upper East region to the Upper West Region was no longer accessible.
In the company of officials of the Highway Authority, he instructed the road be fixed in 48hours.
But the NDC believes the minister has been insensitive as the roads were under construction until the NPP won power in 2016.

Our attention has been drawn to a jaundiced directive emanating from the Hon. Minister for Roads and Highways, directing the Ghana Highways Authority to fix the washed off portion of the Tumu - Navrongo road within 48 hours.
This directive was issued on Tuesday 24th September, 2019 when the honourable Minister, his Deputy( Hon Anthony Abeifaa Karbo) and scores of officials from the Highways Authority paid a visit to the Dimagyang stretch of the Tumu-Navrongo-Bolgatanga Highway.
We deem it intriguing and quiet insensitive for the Hon Minister to attribute the failures and shear negligence of his wobbling Government as an 'act of God'.
For the record sake, we wish to remind the Hon Minister that, that particular road is part of several other roads in the Upper West Region that were awarded on contract by the government of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The roads had contractors on them working feverishly till he and his uncle (President Akufo Addo) for reasons best known to them suspended works on all road contracts in the region under the guise of conducting "value for money audits".
It is this shear negligence of the Akufo Addo's Government that has escalated the paucity of good road network in the Upper West Region. For the Hon Minister to gloss over such ineptitude and incompetence in handling the road sector by he and his uncle and to go ahead attributing the obvious result of their conscious action as 'an act of God', we deem his utterance as insensitive, unacceptable and injurious to the conscience of the good people in the Upper West Region.
For the past week and still counting, passengers commuting between the Upper East and West Region have been stranded on that road as a result of the negligence of President Akufo Addo and his roads Minister. Some including first year SHS Students have spent 48hrs in the wilderness without water and food all because the Akufo Addo's Government is using close to 36 months to conduct an audit on a project that was properly awarded and being executed.
For us, the solution to this mess deliberately created by Government does not just reside in a hollow directive to the Highway Authority, but Government must immediately honor the certificates of all road contractors in the Region including the ones working on the Wa-Tumu-Navrongo-Bolgatanga roads to enable them return to site immediately.
We deem it important to point emphatically to the Hon Minister that, his attempt to blame God for what he deliberately caused is very much hysterical and cannot be accepted. We are appealing to him to use his high Office to facilitate the immediate release of funds for the contractors working on these roads to find a lasting solution to our difficulties. He is kindly reminded that, Governments all over the world are elected to solve problems and not to create them through unpopular and self-seeking policies such as what we are suffering now. Thank you
