Volta Region Branch Of AGI Partners Tourism Ministry Ahead Of 5th Trade & Investment Fair

The Eastern, Volta and Oti Regional Branch Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Mr. Dela Gadzanku has led a 3- Member delegation to pay a courtesy  call on  the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture; Hon. Dr.  Mohammed Ibrahim Awal, at his office in Accra on 12th April, 2021.
   
Briefing the Sector Minister, Mr. Dela indicated that  the purpose for the visit was to discuss how  the industries or the  Private  Sector could partner the Government of Ghana  to re-invigorate the Tourism, Arts and Culture Sector for an enhanced revenue generation.

He emphasized  that  his outfit has  launched the 5th Volta Trade and Investment Fair  which is expected to take place between 15th and 28th November, 2021, at  Ho in the Volta Region. 
     
The Fair, according him, is geared towards  promoting the numerous tourism and investment opportunities in the Volta Region. 

Mr. Dela stressed that as part of the Fair in the Region, there would be  an arrangement for both local and international tourists to visit the various tourism sites  in the Region. 

This according to him, would further help in boosting the domestic tourism drive for the country.

He  also entreated the Sector Minister to endeavour as a matter of priority to improve on the Ghana’s Tourism infrastructure, a situation, he said, is fundamental to the  development of Tourism sphere  in Ghana.

On her part,  Mrs.  Jarnice Odoakor,  Member of AGI,  also implored the  Tourism Minister  to  promote Ghanaian’s Chefs and the  Ghanian cuisines on the international scenes,  adding that, the Ghanaian chefs should be given a spotlight globally by rebranding the locally made foods and beverages with good packaging in order to generate maximum patronage. 

According to her, the initiative when  pursued, would have the propensity to turn the economic fortunes of Ghana around and also create employment for those in the Tourism value chain.

She emphasized that in Begro, in the Eastern Region, there have been an ancient rock landscape that  stretches up to the Volta Region which could also be a  potential source of Tourism attraction when properly exploited to the latter.
 
The Minister for Tourism, Arts & Culture; Hon. Dr.  Mohammed  Ibrahim Awal, expressed his  desire to  boost Ghana’s Tourism Sector to employ about 40% Ghanaians in the tourism value chain.  

He disclosed that his Ministry intends to launch an initiative to promote Domestic Tourism, which would be launch by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in May 2021 to enhance  Ghana’s revenue generation.

Hon. Dr. Awal also assured that the Ministry would be more than ready to partner  with AGI to promote the Ghana’s Tourism industry.     

He disclosed that his outfit intends to push for the   construction of a lot of 4 and 5-star Hotels country-wide to accommodate tourists visiting the country tourist sites within the next two years.

He was optimistic that in the next few years, Ghana's Tourism Sector under his leadership would be the number one contributor to  the country’s GDP.  

The Tourism Minister assured AGI of his resolve  to collaborate with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to fix majority of the roads leading to Ghana’s attraction sites. 
 
Mr. Atsu Sedor who is the Project Co-ordinator for the Brand name; VISIT Volta, urged the Ministry and the other relevant stakeholders in the Tourism Sector to embark on  an aggressive marketing and promotion campaign to attract more tourists.                        

Present at the meeting from Tourism Ministry included the Special Advisor to the Tourism Minister; Nana Eliezer Osarfo-Adjei, the  Executive Assistant to the Hon. Minister; Mrs. Henrietta Halm-Lutterodt, as well as, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry; Mr. Alhassan Abubakar Sadik.
