Security Threats Due To Chieftaincy Disputes–Kan-Dapaah

Chieftaincy conflicts in many parts of the country is the cause of 75 percent of domestic security challenges in Ghana, says the Minister for National Security, Mr Albert Khan-Dapaah.

Aside the Chieftaincy issues, armed robbery, cyber crime, farmer-herdsmen conflicts and the recent issues in the Volta Region makes up the remaining 35 percent, he said.

The minister made the issues known during the opening of a sensitisation workshop on the National Security strategy (NSS) for the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and the Interior in Accra. This workshop is part of a series of activities to the public on the National Security Document which was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in June 2021.

The NSS document contains Ghana's strategy to prevent, protect and respond to relevant security issues. The document is currently before Parliament for approval and adoption, the ministry is taken into account the cost of implementation of the strategies in the document.

According to Mr. Kan-Dapaah, the best way to manage the security challenges and system was to adopt a multi-agency approach with governmental agencies, non-governmental agencies, the media, civil society organisations(CSO) and other stakeholders working to ensure security and stability in Ghana.
